Self Portrait with Curly Hair, 1935 - by Frida Kahlo
Frida separated from Diego Rivera in summer of 1934, after she discovered that Diego was having affair with her younger sister Cristina. Devastated by the separation, Frida didn't produce any paintings in 1934, and in 1935 Frida produced only two paintings, both of which reflect her rage about the affair.
In Self Portrait with Curly Hair, Frida portrays herself with short curly hair, most likely to spite Diego who was very fond of her long flowing hair. Later Frida admitted it expressed her desperation and loneliness with the separation from Diego.
